Reader Stephanie sends along this LIFE CHANGING Swiss floor cleaning method, along with permission to share because she is clean AND generous. Here goes!

Dear Jolie,

I’m staying in an apartment in Switzerland at the moment (which is basically clean person capital of the world), and my other roomate taught me to do this in lieu of using a mop:

1. Get a relatively stiff broom, sweep the floor of hairs etc if any are around.

2. Fill a bucket or similar with water/cleaning product of choice

3. Immerse a large-ish cloth (maybe 30cmx30cm) in the bucket, wring out until damp

4. FOLD THE CLOTH OVER THE BROOM (see illustration)

I have no idea if you’ve heard of this before, but I find it so much easier than mopping proper, and less of a pain than handsies-and-kneesies on the hard floors.

I had indeed heard tell of this method, but not with such a convincing endorsement of its efficacy. Guess I know what I’ll be doing this afternoon….
